Okay, so I’m swamped today (damn real jobs!)… So I might not have a chance to post my power rankings… So today, it’s YOUR turn! Post your rankings and tell us WHY!
Grand Ole Opry week usually isn’t my favorite on Idol. But this time, it was, if nothing, intriguing. Before this week I thought there was a line being drawn, with 5-6 being clearly better than the rest. This week, I think some of the “fodder” showed their promise and kind of turned things upside down, at least for a week.
Here’s my rankings for last night’s performances:
1. Anoop – I loved it. I was just starting to wonder why I had originally been drawn to Anoop and then this… He knocked “You’re Always on My Mind” out of the park. He cut the act and went back to just standing there and singing.
2. Matt G - Quickly showing that this isn’t a 2 horse race. I think he gains the most with the slip of Adam/Danny.

It’s so hard to choose one these days. However I would say that my favorite Idol winner above all is Kelly Clarkson! She is the first and original winner of all. Kelly has the voice, stage presence, and personality. She is diverse and for me that is a true mark of a great singer. She can sing a soulful R&B tune to a sweet alternative song. It’s been amazing to see her rise to fame and to see someone do what they love to do.
Other favorites of mine are:
Tamyra Gray – I always wanted to see her go against Kelly. She has amazing vocals, but hasn’t been successful in the music industry, but looks like she is taking it wherever it comes to her like in acting.
Jennifer Hudson – Her rise to stardom has been amazing. From singing to acting and watching her do them both so well. She’s got some pipes!
Chris Daughtry – Voted off to early too. I wanted to see him go against McPhee so he could show her what being a true artist is about. I dig his rock style.
Elliot Yamin – My man can sing! Not Mr. Popstar, but he is making it out there with his smooth jazzy soulful voice to particular crowds.
Jordin Sparks – My girl from AZ! When I first saw Jordin, I rooted for her. I always thought she was more diverse than the other girls and would have way more to offer in pop music.
Melinda Doolittle – I liked her from the start, although not to win. She’s a pro and she can sang!
David Archuleta – I know, I know. I might get reamed for this one. I’m not a teen, but Archie was the little boy I rooted for on Star Search and he impressed me greatly so I couldn’t let go of the ties that bind us together. J
David Cook – Now I love me some Cookie! This is a true rocker! He can sing the phonebook w/ his rock flavor.
This season I’m loving me some Danny Gokey, Matt Giraud, Lil’ Rounds and Allison Iraheta. Those are my faves. Sound off on your favorites.

Finally, the week that is my favorite out of any week on Idol, apart from the final week. It’s country week!
More specifically the top 11 is taking on songs from the Grand Ole Opry who is also hosting the week.
The idols will be asked to take on a song from a member of the Grand Ole Opry’s illustrious ranks, which includes Idol’s own Carrie Underwood, who coincidentally will be performing on Wednesday night’s results show in a duet with fellow Opry member, Randy Travis, in a duet of the song “I Told You So” which was made popular by Travis in the 1980s and is Carrie’s current single. Brad Paisley is also scheduled to perform on the results show, and is debuting his new single, “Then.”
I think the Idols should do fairly well with the Opry songs. While none of the remaining Idols in the top 11 really give off much of a country vibe (or at least I don’t think they do), with Opry songs, they could also do gospel music, which might better suit some of the Idols, rather than good ol’ fashioned country.
The Grand Ole Opry in particular has been extremely good to former Idols like Carrie, Kellie Pickler, Phil Stacey, Bucky Covington, Kristy Lee Cook and Josh Gracin, so if any of this year’s Idols decides to go for the country music route, they are sure to find a home at the Opry as well.
Let’s just hope the Idols do these amazing country songs the justice that they deserve! I know I can’t wait to hear it!
American Idol Power Rankings: Week 2

So tonight is Michael Jackson Night…
Lil Rounds – The Way You Make Me Feel
I have to be honest, I just am not a very big fan of Lil. She seems very, very ordinary to me. The judges, as usual, are drooling over her. I feel like they HAVE to have Lil stay in the competition… Although, at least Simon called her out on her HIDEOUS outfit.
Scott MacIntyre – Keep The Faith
Okay, “Glam Team”… How are you 0 for freakin’ 2… You have to do SOMETHING with Scott’s mop… And don’t take no for an answer… The dudes BLIND!
Okay, on to more important things. Why the hell is the band playing like that? Awful. If you’re going to be behind the piano, lets at least pick a song that features it. Scott still is lacking on his vocals. Performance quality was good, but he’s definitely not the best singer. Although America loves an underdog. And it was just okay. And the judges are never, ever going to say anything bad about Scott. That’s becoming pretty obvious. Even the “critique” is only about the song.

So rumor has it that American Idol’s Twist was tested in French Idol. Wondering what it will be?
The judges will have one VETO of America. After each show, they will get together and see if the person voted off should be saved. They will have this power ONCE for the entire season. Hopefully they use it wisely!
What do you all think? Let me know in the comments below!
Each and every week we will be recapping the performances from Tuesday on our LIVE Pre-Show! Check back at 7:00 EST for a full hour to get you ready for tonight’s show! The webcast of the Idol Battles Pre-Show will be shown below!
